Opening the app before making a wireless connection will result in a display of the QR code. The QR code is used in some camera models to establish wireless connection between the devices easier. The HDRCX440 doesn't have this option. You can connect the camera to the smartphone by going through the wireless settings of both the camera and iPhone. Please follow the steps in this link to control the camera wirelessly.
NOTE: Please forget your Home Network or change the wireless connection settings of the iPhone before connecting the camera. Any network that are set to automatically connect to the smartphone may interfere with the camera connection.
